Review of the 2015 film "The Martian"
Review of the 2015 film "The Martian"
I do not own a literary source, therefore, unfortunately, I cannot assert the quality of the film adaptation of Andy Weir's novel.
But I can also assure you that the film is very cool and driving. What surprised me was the presence of a lot of humor. Successful jokes do a great job of defusing the generally tense atmosphere of the film.
The lead actor, Matt Damon, has officially become the best astronaut in cinema. First the insanely brilliant Professor Mann, now the botanist Mark Votnik. Damon breathes 100% life into both characters. And if he doesn't have enough screen time in Interstellar to come off to the fullest, then The Martian makes up for it handsomely.
The rest of the cast basically did a great job. I would like to mention Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena and Sean Bean.
Ridley Scott is without a doubt one of the best directors of planet Earth (and now Mars), and with this film he is rehabilitating himself after several previous failures. As always, Scott's visual component is excellent. But the lack of other paintings by the director is repeated. In it, the idea is presented too sparingly and lies on the surface. Of course, the story of survival and the human ability to overcome all obstacles (like Robinson Crusoe, only on an interplanetary scale) is a strong theme, but it is far from the first freshness.
Another mistake Ridley Scott made in using 3D. It was frankly superfluous. So, when thousands of grains of sand fly right into your face during a storm on Mars, it's damn fascinating, but I don't see any more sense in using 3D. Such a film should impress not with some unnecessary effects, but with something completely different.
You can talk about scientific ganji for a long time, but is it necessary? This is primarily a feature film, not a documentary.
The tape's compositions seem inappropriate for such a movie plan, but that's only if you listen to them separately. Believe me, you have never seen a more successful use of disco songs from the 70s and 80s. The Harry Grayson-Williams soundtrack is also very cool.
There is significantly less drama, tears, and ideas in "The Martian" than in "Interstellar." However, this film has an incomparable charm, or charisma, whatever you want to call it. It attracts like a magnet and does not let go for a minute for the entire 140 minutes. The film is worthy of your viewing. So you won't regret going to the cinema and spending the money.
